Guided Trips Available for the Following:

Upland Birds:

Grand Lake Lodge is located in the heart of Maine’s best grouse and woodcock hunting. We have a vast variety of different habitats for grouse, including commercial paper company forests with a large networks of logging roads, and old abandoned farm lands with abundant apples and other feed sources grouse select for.

If you would rather pursue woodcock, then luckily, we are located in the middle of their annual flight path. These migrating birds follow the eastern side of Maine, and falls of woodcock can be found throughout cover during October. Flush counts in the thirties are common for most of the month. You can choose one of our guides with well-trained bird dogs, or bring your own dogs, and explore all that eastern Maine has to offer for upland wing shooting.

White-tailed Deer:

Downeast Maine is home to some of the best white-tail hunting the state has to offer. Grand Lake Stream is home to the historic 31-point Hill Gould buck harvested in 1910, which holds the record for the largest non-typical rack on a Maine deer. Today this area continues to produce massive racks and big-bodied bucks.

Here at Grand Lake Lodge, we offer one-on-one hunts, semi-guided, and DYI hunts. For our one-on-one hunts, if mother nature cooperates, we will teach you how to track big bucks on snow. If not, we often hunt our large waterways from a canoe, leading to some of the most remote and best hunting anywhere. For our semi-guided hunts, we will provide you with two pre-set tree stands in prime locations, and a general area to hunt. If you enjoy DYI hunting, come stay at one of our lakeside cabins, and explore the hundreds of thousands of acres the area has to offer.

Black Bear Over bait:

Grand Lake Stream is our base of operation. From here we travel all directions to cover our 350,000-acre lease area. In 2020, we ran 120 bait sites in the heart of eastern Maine bear country. Our sites are extremely active, as we bait 7 days a week to hold the bears on our sites, using the best bait money can buy. We run 3 or 4 hunters per guide who are guaranteed to give 110% every day of your hunt. We have tree stands and ground blinds to accommodate any weapon choice, and we strive to keep you as comfortable as possible in the stand. At Grand Lake Lodge, you are not just a number. We take great pride in providing you with a personal and professional Maine bear hunt.

Black Bear with Hounds:

Maine bear hunting with hounds is a fast-paced, exciting, and at times, heart-pounding experience. We pride ourselves with maintaining the best bear hounds in the business, year after year. The hound business is not a hobby, it’s our life. Myself and my guides all raise and train our own hounds. We are houndsmen in every sense of the word. We generally start the chase from one of our bait sites, all of which are monitored with a game camera. This allows us to choose a large, adult bear to pursue. Once the chase begins, we utilize the vast network of logging roads to stay close to the dogs. If we can’t find what we are looking for on the bait sites, we often hike with our hounds into a natural food source such as oak mountain tops, beech ridges, or old apple orchards. The hound hunts often yield the largest bears of the season. Our largest harvested bears have ranged from 480 pounds to 600 pounds! We generally take four hunters a week to ensure success and a quality experience. To us, hound hunting is much more than pulling the trigger.

Moose:

Our fully guided moose hunts take place in wildlife management areas 11, 18, and 19. Being drawn for a Maine moose permit is likely a once in a lifetime experience, so choosing us to assist you in harvesting one is a great decision.

Our guides spend every day in the woods and on the water, which allows us to closely monitor the locations and habits on these big bull moose. We utilize various hunting techniques to get close to a moose including calling one in, or paddling one of our many rivers and streams to get you a shot.

We have all the necessary equipment to get your moose out of the woods once it has been harvested. If needed, we are fully capable of skinning, quartering, and packing the animal out for you.

Bobcat with Hounds:

Maine bobcat hunting is our specialty, and it’s by far the most challenging hunt offered in the state. Bobcats live in the thickest cover available, and at times the hunt can be extremely difficult. However, we believe this makes the harvest that much more rewarding. There is nothing more awe-inspiring than the sight of a bobcat pacing across a fresh covering of snow in the wintertime. Our hounds are as good as they come, and are only run on bobcats. We regularly have young dogs being trained to continue our hunting success for years to come. We will hunt wherever the snow conditions are best during the week you have booked, as bobcat hunting is very dependent on this in any given location. We utilize snowmobiles, vast woods road networks, and GPS collars to make the hunt as easy as possible for you. We take two hunters per week, maximum.
